An all fruit diet?

I’ve had a half dozen patients ask me recently if they should follow an all fruit diet to help treat their cancer. I disagree with this strategy. Whole fruits are an excellent source of insoluble and soluble fiber. They are rich in antioxidants and low in calories. However, there is not good evidence that a fruit only diet is beneficial for cancer patients. There is much greater indication that a low glycemic diet is a better choice. Low glycemic fruits are berries, apples, cherries and dried apricots. Better yet, pair them with a protein and health fat such as walnuts, pepitas or sunflower seeds.
